Do you thrive in complex technical environments and possess the vision to shape the future of data-driven decision making? As our Principal Data Engineer, you will become the cornerstone of our data engineering organization, leading the design, development, and evolution of a highly scalable and secure data infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between business objectives and technical solutions, ensuring our data empowers informed decision-making and fuels innovation at the highest level. You will have a large influence on decision making across the Data organization and will help communicate technical requirements with business executives from across the company.

 

THE GAME PLAN

  • Lead the development and execution of the data architecture roadmap, aligning it with the organization's long-term vision and strategic goals.
  • Define & drive the implementation of efficient data models and standards, to ensure consistent and high-quality data across the organization.
  • Define and implement robust data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across the entire data ecosystem.
  • Champion and evangelize the value of data across the organization, fostering a data-driven culture and aligning stakeholders on data initiatives.
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging data technologies and trends, proactively identifying and evaluating their potential impact and applicability.
  • Design and architect highly scalable and performant data capabilities (e.g., data pipelines, data lake, data warehouse), leveraging cutting-edge cloud platforms and technologies.
  • Oversee the implementation and optimization of data infrastructure, ensuring cost-effectiveness, uptime, and resilience.
  • Lead the selection and adoption of new data tools and technologies, while fostering innovation and continuous improvement within the data engineering team.
  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including product managers, business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineers, to effectively translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment across the organization.
  • Advocate for and secure resources to support the ongoing development and maintenance of the data infrastructure.

 

THE STATS
What we’re looking for in our next teammate

  • Deeply technical and analytical with implementation and architectural experience in Streaming, Big Data, AI/ML engineering and Data Warehousing. 
  • Hands on experience leading large-scale database, ETL/ELT deployment in batch or streaming ingestion, and AI/ML projects with building feature software.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in data architecture and engineering, with a proven track record of success in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
  • In-depth expertise in data modeling, data warehousing and lake technologies, ETL/ELT processes , and cloud data platforms.
  • Strong experience in dbt, Databricks, and other modern data platforms and capabilities.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing data engineering teams.
  • AWS Certification such as AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Big Data.
  • Ability to see around corners, predict needs, and identify patterns.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of data security and governance principles, with the ability to implement robust frameworks and processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.

The applicable salary range for this position is $185,000 - $231,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation.


This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.

Our salary intelligence, powered by our AI algorithms, has calculated an estimated range for this position between $105,000 - $145,000 . Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
