Software Engineer Intern - Undergraduate
United States, San Mateo: this position must be performed in a hybrid capacity out of the SIE-PlayStation San Mateo, CA office.

About the Team:
At Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), users' gaming life experiences and engagement are key to our platform's success. Our team, part of the Game & Media eXperience (GMX), is building large-scale backend services to empower exciting user experiences around customer's gaming life, including Tournaments, Challenges and Game Help. We also work on building frameworks, libraries and modernizing services.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Gain experience in object-oriented design and programming, with a focus on Java programming.
Develop an understanding of database concepts and work with both relational and non-relational databases such as MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, etc.
Contribute to the development of web server applications.
Write high-quality, well-architected code.
Collaborate with team members and seek help when needed, ensuring clear communication and teamwork.
Optionally work with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and apply design and architectural patterns.
What We’re Looking For:
Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with an expected graduation by Spring 2026.
Strong understanding of object-oriented design and programming, with exposure to Java programming.
Solid grasp of database concepts, with familiarity in both relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, etc.).
Passion for writing high-quality, well-architected code.
Knowledge of web server application development is a major plus.
Familiarity with design and architectural patterns is a bonus.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a plus, but not required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a willingness to seek knowledge and collaborate with others.
Eligibility:
Able to work at minimum 2-3 days a week from our San Mateo, CA office during one of the following periods: May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th.
Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.
Open to students who are U.S. citizens or international students with an F-1 visa.
Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
