THE POSITION

FanDuel is looking for a VP of Sports Strategy and Operations. This role will ensure the seamless execution of strategic initiatives and operational processes within the sports organization.

Serving as the “right hand” to the President of Sports this individual will provide strategic guidance, operational oversight, and project management support to drive the organization towards its goals and objectives. A critical element of the job is to work with the entire Sports Leadership Team and assist in execution of both strategy and day-to-day operations, and how we communicate our progress and drive alignment with the FanDuel organization at large.

THE GAME PLAN

Operational Leadership

  • Drive the Sports operating model and assist the Sports Leadership team in performance management routines, cross-functional coordination, and organizational direction.
  • Directly manage the “first line of defense” compliance function that dotted lines to the Chief Legal Officer’s organization
  • Identify and resolve unproductive working tensions, bottlenecks, and other operational grit within the organization
  • Partner with the leadership team to hone strategy & communications to the company and executive leadership
  • Act as a liaison between FanDuel Sports BU and central business counterparts such as Finance, HR, Legal as needed to enable seamless sharing of information and transparency
  • Help team stay on track to goals and progress by developing mechanisms to enable accountability, platforms to raise risks and concerns and appropriate escalation channels

Sports Strategy

  • Partner with the Sports President to identify key strategic priorities for the FanDuel Sports business unit and help develop and execute plans against said initiatives in partnership with Sports BU leaders (e.g., make FanDuel the best place to bet live on sports)
  • Prepare, organize and run key management and strategic planning routines, inclusive of leadership offsites, QBRs, monthly ops/planning meetings, and talent planning and calibration
  • Collaborate with Sports President in developing department-wide communications and to keep teams up to date and on track to goals - including All Hands and Town Hall updates, providing visibility into Sports BU goals and metrics, strategic objectives, and key team initiatives
  • Help to drive visibility into team roadmaps and priorities to enable leadership to identify key dependencies, risks and potential roadblocks
  • Work with Sports President and Sports BU leadership to provide department updates to the executive leadership team as applicable – including quarterly forecasts, progress against annual plans and goals etc.

  • Minimum 10 years work experience, specifically in a problem-solving capacity. If you were a senior consultant that loved to solve problems in high-growth businesses, get stuff done and have real impact, but did not like selling work to a client…than you’ll love this job.
  • Multiple years’ experience managing teams and
  • You get stuff Has a proven track record of being able to drive initiatives through implementation. People who would prefer to talk about strategy vs actually do the work to implement it should not apply.
  • Strong problem solver, ability to break complex problems into simpler, smaller ones
  • Swiss-army knife knowledge across business practices. Must be a quick learner
  • Holds a seat at the table, can speak at the right level of detail when providing findings to Has no trouble being tough and honest in professional conversations.
  • Experience building strategic plans and approaches to running

The applicable salary range for this position is $216,000 - $270,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.

Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
