OVERVIEW

POSITION SUMMARY

The Video & Scoreboard Engineer will be responsible for video, audio, and large-format LED engineering and operational services as well as broadcast operational services for all BMO Stadium events. This role performs technical implementation, repairs, and maintenance of complex broadcast equipment, including control room, HD cameras, audio systems, IPTV, video displays, and large-format LED displays.  This role also provides engineering support to broadcast and remote production trucks, maintains primary event feeds, distribution, web streaming, social networking, and external video presentations.   

This role reports to the Broadcast and AV Engineer. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in the supervision of part-time, vendor, and contract employees, including but not limited to, video and audio engineers, broadcast engineers, A/V technicians, IPTV technicians, RF frequency coordinators, camera operators, and control room crew.  
  • Engineer for all Broadcast, A/V, and Media Services related to in-stadium and remote production trucks to ensure all signals and data are routed properly. 
  • Install, maintain, modify, operate and support complex broadcast systems and A/V equipment at BMO Stadium. 
  • Liaise and provide support/coordination between stadium production, operations, and all outside ENG truck tie-ins for functional needs, including but not limited to park and power, satellite feeds, ethernet/wireless, phone lines, operations requests, etc.   
  • Ensure BMO Stadium/LAFC broadcast and operations policies and standards are upheld and adhered to. 
  • Interact with visiting production crews to ensure a successful show by demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.  Maintain solid written and verbal communication; able to collaborate and interface with broadcast network Technical Managers, Gameday and Event Producers, and clients for concerts and other third-party stadium events. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance and/or troubleshooting on all broadcast devices, including but not limited to, video equipment, audio switching equipment, processing and monitoring equipment, and streaming equipment. 
  • Monitor equipment that may be malfunctioning during events with the ability to rapidly diagnose problems and implement timely solutions.  Handle emergency repairs during live events; provide proactive engineering maintenance support for all systems to minimize event presentation impact during games and scheduled events. 
  • Act as liaison with manufacturers to coordinate and authorize warranty repairs for both preventive and predictive maintenance.  Procure equipment and parts as needed. 
  • Maintain software updates on all audio and video equipment, including but not limited to: Evertz video routing systems, Ross Switcher/Xpression, Audio Architect, Allen-Heath, and communication systems (including RTS, Clear Comm, Shure, etc.). 
  • Clean and maintain fiber optic pathways in multiple patch rooms 
  • Keep control room, storage spaces, patch rooms, media panels, and amp rooms clean and organized 
  • Provide technical support for LED display installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting; perform daily maintenance and repairs on LED display modules and related parts/components 
  • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing load-in and strike of large format field perimeter LED displays before and after events at BMO Stadium 
  • Work with Senior Director of Stadium Production to schedule and coordinate third-party LED crewing 
  • Act as liaison with manufacturers, warrantee and service agreement providers to coordinate, authorize, ship, receive, and track equipment for preventive and/or required repairs 
  • Manage, log, and track inventory of LED parts and supplies 
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Management. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year College or University required, preferably or in video/broadcast engineering, digital media production, broadcast operations, or other related disciplines. Equivalent combination of technical degree with 2 – 3 years of training is also acceptable 
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in video and broadcast engineering 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in sports/venue production & engineering 
  • Fundamental understanding of HD/4K/UHD broadcast technology, IP routing and IP 2110/SMPTE multicast architecture, signal flow systems (maintenance & design), fiber optic transmission, maintenance, and repair, RF systems, distributed audio systems (including front-of-house, back-of-house, and portable), and large-scale LED display technology 
  • Functional knowledge of and experience with typical control room technology and equipment, including but not limited to: multiviewers, replay systems, switchers, CG equipment, HD cameras (including RF, stationary & PTZ), camera shading & remote/robotic operation, communication systems, digital video & graphic playback, digital projectors, audio systems (including microphones, amplifiers, speakers, monitors, etc.) 
  • Experience with Evertz routing, Ross Systems, Dante, Allen-Heath & Yamaha mixers, Reidel, RTS, Clear Comm, Cisco, preferred 
  • High standards of engineering practices; assists in installation of new equipment and has a strong understanding of CAD drawings and elevations 
  • Able to read and understand technical materials, including instruction/repair manuals, service contracts, agreements, warranty-related materials, CAD diagrams, blueprints, etc. 
  • Ability to solder and terminate cables and power connectors 
  • Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions and changes 
  • Must be proactive, organized, and resourceful with great attention to detail 
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize efficiently and quickly 
  • Self-starter – able to work efficiently and effectively without direct supervision 
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via written communication, telephone, or in person 
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technical systems 
  • Positive and professional attitude; helpful and accommodating 
  • Flexible schedule. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours in addition to regular business hours as dictated by the stadium event schedule 
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands/arms, lift/move 50+ pounds, climb stairs/ladders, etc. for multiple hours and with limited assistance. 

SALARY RANGE 

At LAFC, we carefully consider a wide range of factors to determine a fair and equitable compensation package. The final offer amount will consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience and training. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure guidelines, the compensation range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000 per year.
