Position Summary:
The Basketball Administration & Compliance Specialist will be a vital contributor to the WNBA League Operations Department, which encompasses Basketball Operations (on-court activities), Player Development (player appearances and programs), Basketball Administration (compliance and governance) and other specific league led initiatives. This position, reporting to the Basketball Administration & Compliance Lead, requires a candidate with a demonstrated passion for women’s basketball, a track record of managing complex tasks, an ability to implement and follow compliance processes, and an aptitude for building strong relationships across the women’s basketball ecosystem.
Major Responsibilities:
Support the Basketball Administration and Compliance Lead across an array of matters, including administration of the Player Contract Management System (PCMS), reviewing player contracts, processing team roster changes, verifying WNBA Draft eligibility, and monitoring salary cap compliance
Act as an additional point of contact with team General Managers and Assistant General Managers for roster, free agency, trade, and player movement inquiries
Oversee compliance for player marketing matters
Support the Basketball Administration and Compliance Lead in developing new departmental processes related to Basketball Administration
Provide onboarding support of new basketball operations staff, including for WNBA expansion teams
Assist in monitoring compliance with the league's health-related requirements (e.g. cardiac screening, concussion protocol) and reviewing the league’s Electronic Medical Records System (EMR)
Draft memos to teams regarding Basketball Administration matters
Assist with logistics for key WNBA events including WNBA Draft, WNBA All-Star, WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, and WNBA Playoffs and Finals
Required Skills/Knowledge:
3+ years post graduate experience
Analytically inclined and comfortable working with and interpreting data
High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
Proactive and adaptive
Strong project management experience
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships
Proficiency in Excel
Excellent verbal and written skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree required (JD or MBA a plus)
Salary Range: $115,000 - $125,000
