Job Description

MLB is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our dynamic team as Software Engineer Interns. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals and contribute to cutting-edge projects that shape the future of baseball technology. This internship offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment while making a meaningful impact on the world of sports.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that power various aspects of MLB's digital platforms, including web and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, propose technical solutions, and implement robust software solutions.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Contribute to the architecture and design of scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that support MLB's mission-critical operations.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, and leverage them to enhance MLB's software development practices and capabilities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and debugging software issues, and provide timely resolutions to ensure smooth operation of MLB's digital platforms.
  • Document code, technical specifications, and project documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong passion for coding and building innovative systems, demonstrated through personal projects, coursework, or relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Kotlin, Java, Python, and willingness to learn new technologies as needed.
  • Prior experience with web development frameworks, version control systems (e.g., GitHub), and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and propose effective solutions in a collaborative team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

The summer program begins Monday, June 5th and requires a minimum commitment of 10 weeks.  

 All applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  • At a minimum current college sophomore entering junior year in the fall of 2024
  • Excellent academic standing
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Some previous work experience (part-time, internship or volunteer) related to the department(s) of interest is strongly preferred

The hiring range for this position is an hourly rate of $20.00 to $23.00. The actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
