As the Data Science Tech Lead on our Feedback team, you will develop algorithmic features and metrics that provide deeper insights into our members’ bodies. Leveraging various data sources to combine WHOOP data with “gold standard” truth data, as well as drawing upon clinical theory and evidence, you will lead a team to design, train, deploy, and maintain machine learning algorithms to provide insights to members on a wide range of topics. Collaborating with data engineers, product managers, and software engineers, among others, you will create features that utilize physiological and behavioral measurements to deliver insightful metrics and guide our members toward their goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing WHOOP algorithms using large-scale ML and DL models. These models use physiological and behavioral data to provide personalized insights and guidance, helping members achieve their health and fitness goalsServe as a player-coach technical leader, managing and mentoring a small team of data scientists while actively contributing to research and development effortsCreate, improve, and maintain production services that analyze physiological and behavioral data in collaboration with MLOps EngineersCollaborate with Data Engineers to enhance data pipelines, machine learning tools, and quality validation systemsConduct literature reviews and research projects to power evidence-based features for Members, continuously improving the teams’ knowledge of physiological and data science methodsPartner with our in-house clinical research team to design data collection studies to develop or improve our algorithmsPeriodically serve as the on-call data scientist to respond in real-time to incidents affecting production servicesQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Master’s or PhD preferred5+ years of full-time professional experience in a related area, applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques1+ year people management experience or technical project leadership experience, with strong coaching and mentoring skillsExperience deploying services and maintaining live code through logging and monitoring within a production environmentStrong Python programming skills and substantial experience with scientific Python packages. Proficient in scientific Python and SQLExcellent verbal and written communication skillsSignificant experience working with time series data, preferably with user-facing applicationsThis role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
