Position Title: Director, Health Equity 

Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer

Location: Chapel Hill, NC; Newton, MA; New York, NY; Minneapolis, MN; Remote considered

Compensation Information: $125,000-$150,000 (Director 1 - Director 2), depending on qualifications, plus bonus potential and benefits

Position Summary:

Advancing health equity remains at the center of what we do at Well, in alignment with our mission to generate unparalleled levels of health engagement and transformative health outcomes for each of our members. In keeping with our focus, and complemented by a robust body of evidence which demonstrates considerable unmet market need, we have an opportunity to rapidly accelerate our efforts to address core dimensions of health equity for our diverse membership. The Director of Health Equity is responsible for leading our internal efforts to develop and execute a robust health equity strategic plan, drive internal visibility and alignment towards company-wide objectives, while also serving as an external ambassador with Employer B2B and Sponsored DTC prospects and clients for this critical domain. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refine/develop Well’s Health Equity strategy using available literature, data, research, and evidence to formulate a clear articulation of what Well can and cannot impact and an associated set of measures to evaluate progress against the target areas
  • Serve as the Health Equity Subject Matter Expert (SME) across Well, collaborating with each functional area (Product, Client Success, PEP, Growth, BI, Data Science, etc.) to evaluate the implications of the Health Equity strategy and create action items
  • Lead all Health Equity focus areas on Well’s Platform Experience & Performance (PEP) team including responsibility for proposing/updating focus area metrics that align with the Health Equity strategy, utilizing dashboards to better understand our sub-populations, identifying key opportunity areas for intervention, developing and designing data-driven interventions to progress against the chosen focus area KPIs/metrics and monitoring the performance of those interventions in an iterative, rapid innovation cycle.
  • Work collaboratively with the product organization on the ongoing product enhancement concepts that will differentiate Well as the leader in health engagement for marginalized, underserved populations 
  • Establish quarterly cadence for reporting out progress against our health equity agenda and create an annual report that highlights the tangible progress on the strategy and key outcomes 
  • Act as the primary internal (LT, BOD, All Hands, etc.) and external (clients, prospects, presentations, etc) spokesperson for Well to represent our Health Equity strategy and results
  • In partnership with product marketing, create market-facing materials that are used to articulate and differentiate Well as the leaders in advancing health engagement and outcomes for marginalized populations across our B2B and Sponsored DTC prospects and clients. This includes content for use in RFPs, participation in B2B new business meetings, and via blog posts / LinkedIn material. 
  • Attend key prospect meetings, serving as Well’s SME and accountable party for advancing of our clients’ health equity priorities
  • Participate in QBRs/ABRs as needed to champion the impact we are making for our clients’ health equity agenda
  • Participation in client and company rendezvous, requiring 25-50% travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of increasing responsibility in entrepreneurial roles focused on business development, strategy and/or non-profit leadership
  • Experience with underserved and/or non-majority communities with a demonstrated understanding of social determinants of health inequalities
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully design and implement new strategies or programs within existing organizations
  • Knowledge of and experience with Health Equity related literature, research and evidence
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret and translate data into actionable insights
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including formal presentations for all levels of management combined with strong collaboration and influencing abilities
  • Available and willing to travel
  • Experience working with non-native English speakers in a health context a plus
  • Experience with health and wellbeing benefits a plus
