Program Experience The 2025 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program that runs from June 9 – August 15, 2025. The program gives participants the opportunity to learn about basketball, develop critical career skills and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues (WNBA, G League, NBA 2K). In addition to on-the-job experience, interns are invited to participate in a broad array of professional development programs, community and social experiences. Interns should reflect excellent academic standing and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, we look for candidates who possess leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities. Role Overview Selected interns will work on projects related to software development or data science, including, but not limited to, bug fixes, incident prediction, data strategy and analysis, database management, fan engagement, interface design, performance improvements, revenue and viewer optimization and user experience amongst a team of experienced engineers and data scientists aligned to our business outcomes. Interns will be placed in one of our departments responsible for our internal and external technology products and operations or data strategy and analytics. This includes Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), whose suite of digital products includes NBA League Pass, the NBA App, and NBA ID; Information Technology, who design, develop and maintain systems and technical infrastructure that support the League’s global operations; and the Data and Basketball Strategy & Analytics teams, who deliver data platforms, products and analysis to inform strategy and decision making across all aspects of the NBA business and basketball ecosystem. Major Responsibilities May include, but not limited to: Collaborating on cornerstone digital products to improve fan experience. Following workflow processes, automations, and integrations. Completing trend analyses, including reviewing events, incidents and providing summary reports. Writing TypeScript/JavaScript code for NBA products across the ever-growing ecosystem of HTML5 powered connected devices (Xbox, PlayStation, Samsung, Hisense, Chromecast, Comcast and others) Performing various cross-departmental quantitative analyses regarding on-court activities and trends, which are used to evaluate the NBA’s core product. Designing statistical analysis and visualizations that relate to league structure, rule changes, game play, improvements to the competition format, and implementation of technologies to improve player health, game integrity, and fan engagement across all NBA properties, including the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League. Coordinating with data engineers, data analysts, and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment to the wider NBA business infrastructure. Creating and maintaining user interfaces, optimizing site performance, and ensuring a seamless user experience. Iterating AIOPs ML modules based on updated insights and learnings. Identifying and resolving technical issues and bugs across NBA products and websites Integrating data from various sources, such as player statistics, schedules, and live scores, into the website using APIs, enhancing the site's content. Synthesizing business requirements incorporating platform capabilities and scalability.
