Position Overview: This role serves as the primary accounting and financial operations partner to the Atlanta Braves Major League team and Minor League affiliates. This role owns the coordination, oversight, and financial accountability for team-related travel, logistics, and operational expenses, working closely with baseball operations, and internal leadership. The position combines strong technical accounting expertise with high-touch relationship management in a highly visible, dynamic environment. This position will be expected to have a detailed understanding of accounting policies, P&L accounts, balance sheet accounts, and some complex accounting topics.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for performing complex accounting needs such as -
- Oversee all Major and Minor League team expenses. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Review and process travel disbursements to support and ensure CBA compliance
- Summarize league mandated reporting requirements
- Partner closely with baseball operations to coordinate and resolve expense-related matters including travel, medical, housing, and other team logistics
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for special events, overseeing third-party settlements and ensuring financial accuracy and completeness
- Support supplier onboarding and maintenance by reviewing requests and verifying critical details with suppliers
- Assist in review and processing of company travel program expenses.
- Expected to lead and manage employee(s) to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with company standards.
- Support the accounting manager in leading the monthly and quarterly close process including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Maintain regular communication with relevant business leaders on their financial results
- Drive improvement and productivity projects to direct continuous growth in the accounting functional area through documentation, cross-training and automation
- Assist with analytical review of financial results and understanding factors driving variances
- Review/Coding of ad-hoc payments and supplier invoices within accounting software systems
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues while working in a timely manner
- Exceed productivity standards and seek out ways to increase efficiency
- Follow proper internal audit guidelines and provide support for annual internal/external audits
- Actively supports and contributes to the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness
- Other Ad Hoc requests from the business or finance leaders
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; public experience (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred.
- BS or BBA in accounting required.
- CPA or active progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and SOX requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Advanced Excel skills
- Preferred working knowledge of Workday
- Ability to work under pressure, independently and in collaboration with others, to meet deadlines, while managing numerous issues and projects simultaneously
- Perform proactively and be creative
- Ability to build relationships and work directly with various business leaders and groups
