As the Senior Product Manager for Email and Subscriptions at Outside, you will be the product owner of the full funnel that drives our users into our subscription offerings and through their journey as subscribers - from newsletters to registration and checkout to retention.
In close partnership with our growth marketing team, you’ll leverage a suite of subscription, email and marketing platforms, ensuring that our user journeys are both functional and a source of delight for our users. Your insights will shape the way we connect with our community, providing them with seamless access to the outdoor content and experiences they love.

Within 1 month, you will:
- Establish relationships with stakeholders, team members, and product leadership to foster collaboration and align on priorities.
- Deeply analyze the competitive landscape of subscription products and services, identifying key opportunities.
- Immerse yourself in our user data, gaining a nuanced understanding of our users’ needs, behaviors, and motivations.
- Begin shaping the strategic roadmap for subscription management, identifying key areas for revenue growth and user engagement.
Within 6 months, you will:
- Develop a clear vision and strategy for the email and subscription products that differentiates us in the market, focusing on delivering unique value to users.
- Create a data-informed product roadmap that outlines initiatives for acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
- Champion a user-centric approach in the product development process, using both qualitative insights and quantitative data to validate strategic decisions.
- Implement and iterate on initiatives that directly contribute to revenue growth, such as optimizing pricing models, expanding subscription offerings, or improving retention rates.
Within 12 months, you will:
- Be recognized as the domain expert on the subscription and email products, with a deep understanding of market dynamics, user segments, and revenue drivers.
- Develop business cases for new product innovations, grounded in market research and user data, to drive long-term growth.
- Drive cross-functional alignment around key strategic priorities, ensuring the entire team is focused on impactful initiatives.
- Lead efforts to enhance the overall subscription experience, exploring partnerships and opportunities to expand our reach and market share.
What YOU bring to Outside: (Preferred Qualifications)
- Proven Strategic Thinking and Market Analysis: Ability to evaluate market trends, competitive subscription models, and identify opportunities for growth through new offerings, such as bundled subscriptions and payment flexibility.
- Experience with Subscription Management Platforms: Hands-on experience with Piano or similar subscription management tools, with a track record of leveraging advanced features for managing user subscriptions and payment flows. Experience with android and iOS apps, strongly preferred.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Expertise in analyzing user data to assess the impact of various subscription models, payment providers, and pricing options. Ability to conduct A/B testing, build data-informed business cases, and optimize strategies for acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
- User-Centric Approach: Ability to translate user insights into product features that enhance subscription experiences. Experience in understanding user preferences around payment methods and designing offers that meet user needs while driving adoption.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong skills in working closely with engineering, finance, growth marketing, customer support, and external partners to define and launch new subscription models, integrate additional payment providers, and manage technical and business challenges.
- Project and Product Management Expertise: Proven track record of building and executing a product roadmap focused on subscription optimization. Ability to prioritize initiatives that maximize user acquisition, retention, and revenue growth, while managing timelines and stakeholder expectations.
- Strong Communication and Stakeholder Management: Ability to clearly articulate the rationale behind product decisions and the expected ROI. Proven experience in communicating progress, trade-offs, and strategic decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in a product management role for a subscription-supported media or software company.
- Experience delivering products in iterative fashion, working closely with engineering teams in an Agile environment.
- Content/publisher technology and business experience preferred (e.g. familiarity with Content Management Systems such as WordPress)
- Experience leveraging payment systems (such as Stripe, iTunes, and Google Pay), ESPs (Hubspot, Cordial) and subscription products (such as Piano)
What We Offer:
Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $130,000 to $180,000. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
