Job Description

Why PlayStation?

PlayStation isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Today, we’re recognized as a global leader in entertainment producing The PlayStation family of products and services including PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR, PlayStation®Plus, acclaimed PlayStation software titles from PlayStation Studios, and more.

PlayStation also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team.

The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation.

Senior UX Designer, Connect

San Mateo, CA

You are equal parts systems thinker and craft driven designer. You bring clarity to complex ecosystems, translating identity frameworks, account services, safety policies, and platform technologies into seamless, intuitive player experiences. You leverage emerging capabilities to design secure, scalable solutions that build trust across regions and devices. You ground every decision in research, experimentation, and measurable outcomes, and you thrive in ambiguity, defining structure where none exists.

In this role, you will contribute to and shape experiences across PlayStation’s cross platform ecosystem, including areas such as Accounts and Identity and Safety. Your work may span secure and frictionless account journeys, inclusive family management experiences, self service and support tools, and systems that promote positive play while reducing harmful interactions. You will design solutions that balance usability, compliance, privacy, safety, and business objectives, ensuring experiences scale globally across surfaces and regions.

You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Trust and Safety, Legal, Customer Support, and regional teams to deliver cohesive platform experiences across console, web, and companion surfaces. You will help evolve platform standards, contribute to shared systems, and define interaction patterns that strengthen player trust and engagement.

You will join the Connect design team in a hybrid role based in San Mateo and be part of the broader Sony design organization. You will collaborate with a global network of designers to elevate craft, advance systems thinking, and deliver forward looking, player centered experiences at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own UX for a core platform surface, system feature, or end-to-end player journey.

  • Lead design from concept through launch across console, web, and/or companion experiences.

  • Translate complex technical and platform constraints into intuitive, performant user experiences.

  • Define interaction models, navigation patterns, and scalable UI frameworks.

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Research to shape roadmap and feature strategy.

  • Reduce ambiguity in emerging or evolving platform capabilities through rapid prototyping and validation.

  • Contribute to and evolve platform design systems and standards.

  • Facilitate critiques and drive high-quality design execution across teams.

  • Mentor designers and elevate craft, consistency, and systems thinking.

  • Present and communicate design decisions clearly to cross-functional and leadership stakeholders.

  • Balance innovation with usability, accessibility, performance, and platform consistency.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Interaction or Product Design, Human Factors, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of product or UX design experience, including platform or systems-level work.

  • A portfolio that showcases thoughtful, simple, deliberate & intuitive design, with extraordinary interaction, motion, and visuals.

  • Experience shipping complex, multi-surface experiences (console, mobile, web, or connected devices).

  • Strong systems thinking and interaction design skills.

  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous, technically complex environments.

  • Experience collaborating closely with cross-functional partners.

  • High level of proficiency with Figma, including components, auto-layout, prototyping, tokens, animation, plugins, etc.

  • Clear, concise communication and presentation skills.

Bonus

  • Strong understanding of the PlayStation ecosystem, platform strategy, and service landscape.

  • Demonstrated history of leading products from early concept through successful launch at scale.

  • Deep knowledge of player behaviors, gaming culture, and industry trends.

  • Experience operating effectively within globally distributed, cross-functional teams.

  • Proven ability to design scalable, localized experiences for diverse international markets.
