MAJOR PURPOSE:

The Assistant Manager, Engineering at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex (JRTC), operated by Major League Baseball, is responsible for assisting with oversight of the maintenance technicians during their shifts, ensuring the completion of work orders and projects in accordance with facility guidelines.  Primary focus will be on ensuring the timely completion of work orders, preventive maintenance, and projects for the on-site villas, while maintaining seamless communication with Event Planning, Housekeeping, and Operations regarding maintenance-related room issues.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Engineering to monitor daily operations, including facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, and ongoing projects.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and scheduling of maintenance technicians.
  • Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe and well-maintained conditions, promptly addressing hazards, defects, or repair needs.
  • Conduct minor troubleshooting and repairs, such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, and fuses.
  • Perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures, addressing clogged lines and drains.
  • Support preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC systems, including filter changes and bearing maintenance.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedure manuals.
  • Operate various machinery, equipment, and tools, and maintain an inventory of supplies and recommended purchases.
  • Perform locksmith duties, including installing, repairing, and replacing locks on doors.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain the operational functionality of doors and windows.
  • Utilize basic skills to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions related to construction projects.
  • Install or replace plugs, switches, and outlets.
  • Spearhead the JRTC safety committee and conduct OSHA training companywide to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership to the team, stepping in for the Manager, Engineering when necessary.
  • Motivate team members and address job-related issues as they arise.
  • Respond to emergency situations, customer concerns/complaints, and special requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Engineering.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and techniques of maintaining building and facilities.
  • Knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used in building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to keep detailed records of activities performed.
  • Progressive roles and responsibilities in supervision, management, and support of technical building maintenance and trades personnel.
  • Proficient knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems design, operations, maintenance installation, repairs, and retrofits.
  • Prior supervisory level responsibility for safety program oversight preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, team oriented, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Logical reasoning skills to identify strengths and weaknesses in problem-solving.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
