As an Junior Legal Counsel within the Commercial, Distribution, & Regulatory Legal Team of DAZN Japan, you be supporting the rapidly evolving legal needs of this dynamic and exciting sports media business.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Senior Legal Counsel, DAZN Japan & APAC, providing legal support across all areas of DAZN's business in Japan. This role offers the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of tasks, including contract negotiations, legal research, and project implementation, in collaboration with business leads and other professionals.

The role offers a fantastic opportunity for a junior or mid-level commercial and/or media lawyer to join one of the most exciting companies in the sports industry. While the position includes some core responsibilities, its broad scope is designed to provide you with a diverse skill set and knowledge base.

As our new Junior Legal Counsel you’ll have the opportunity to:
  • Draft and negotiate major sports rights deals, high-value contracts with technology service providers, and partnership and distribution agreements with key partners in Japan.
  • Lead legal support for significant projects in the Japanese business.
  • Provide legal guidance on relevant laws and regulations, including privacy and competition laws, to ensure product compliance, with assistance from team members or external counsel as needed.
  • Support the development of routine legal awareness and training activities for the Japan business.
  • Conduct legal research and manage communications with regulatory bodies in Japan.
  • Work closely with the legal team and external counsel to assist with the implementation of various business projects.
  • Occasional support with non-commercial legal matters to support the wider team

  • You'll be set up for success if you have the essentials:
  •  Around 1-3 years of post-qualification experience as a lawyer (qualified in Japan or another jurisdiction) in a successful and recognized commercial and/or media team, either in private practice or in-house.
  • An excellent ability to write and speak in Japanese and English (ability to review legal documents in both languages will be highly valued)
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting commercial and technology contracts.
  • Exceptional technical legal skills, particularly in drafting and interpretation.
  • Ability to conduct research and draft reports related to Japanese law.
  • A well-rounded personality with the ability to work effectively with professionals from diverse disciplines.
  • Self-starter with the ability to make independent decisions and the judgment to seek guidance when necessary
