Spring Health’s design systems team ideates, designs, engineers, and maintains an ecosystem of internal tooling for product designers and front end engineers, and empower them to bring our vision to life. We serve as the glue between our product design and product engineering teams, and take great care to ensure our systems are creative, flexible, scalable, accessible, consistent and reliable. We believe that design is never done, and we’re building a scalable system to meet the highest levels of both quality and function. We need passionate people that aren’t afraid to push the limits, and can convince others to follow along. Ultimately you will help us deliver a polished product at scale. 

This position is remote, full time, with travel 1-2 times per year for team gatherings as possible. You will report to a Senior Engineering Manager in the Member Experience organization and work closely with the Design Systems team. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Work on a small team to build performant experiences using your deep knowledge of modern front end development practices and technologies
  • Develop with a component-first mindset and an eye for clean design and UX
  • Partner with design systems and feature teams to ensure members come first
  • Research complex problems, then design and implement solutions
  • Utilize broad knowledge of architectural patterns and best practices
  • Extending API’s that empower engineers to maximize creative expression and overall utility
  • Use semantic design tokensImplemente tokenized Lottie or Rive animations
  • Be a WCAG 2.2 A/AA advocate and resource to the engineering teams
  • Develop React components per Figma design specifications
  • Collaborate with design systems and feature teams to ensure members come first
  • Accountable for estimation of work and deliverable timeline with high quality
  • Mentor and guide fellow frontend software developers
  • Uses clear and concise written and verbal communication, leaning on more asynchronous
  • Review all design systems code changes, ensuring quality is high, meets accessibility standards, and is responsive to all supported screen sizes 

What success looks like in this role: 

  • Design system - responsible for timely documentation of agreed percentage of components and patterns
  • Design system documentation - responsible for percentage of components and  patterns, timely documented
  • Active contributors - increase the number of engineers contributing to the design system
  • Accessibility - build and improve the percentage of the ecosystem covered by automated scans or monitoring for a11y conformance

What we expect from you: 

  • Expertise in building performant experiences using HTML, CSS & JavaScript
  • Expertise in React including JSX, components, props, state management, lifecycle methods, hooks, event handling, higher-order components (HOCs), render props, and composite components
  • Experience building encapsulated UI components using JavaScript front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, Knockout, Vue, Chakra, MaterialUI
  • Experience performing code reviews as a mentor
  • Experience mentoring & leading front end developers, including accessible code (WCAG 2.2 A & AA)
  • 3+ years experience with automated cross-browser testing
  • BONUS:
    • Experience building Figma plugins
    • Experience working with Webflow APIs

The target base salary range for this position is $159,100 - $194,150, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
